National Junior College (NJC) accumulated a total of 77 points to smash Hwa Chong Institution’s (HCI) hopes of attaining a decade-long streak as the A boys’ champion in this year’s National Schools Canoeing Championship.
The football teachers-in-charge have given the league and the increased playing time for the tertiary athletes a thumbs up, considering it good practice for the upcoming National A Division Championship. The competitive nature of the league gives it a different edge over the usual friendlies.
The league is part of NYSI’s efforts to increase the playing time of the tertiary-level athletes and caters to both the boys and girls divisions for sports like basketball, football and netball. The tertiary basketball league, which debuted this year, is getting a good reception from the community.
Tan Qi Qing (HCI #12) had a game-high 12 points while teammate Jacqueline Yang (HCI #8) added 10 points of her own in HCI's victory over SRJC.
DHS came up big on the offensive rebounding during crunch time to get them the 43-41 victory over SRJC.
Defense of defending champion RI shone through as they cruised past SRJC 47-12.
Pang Cheng Feng (SRJC #4) played big minutes throughout the game to score game-high 21 points and led SRJC past NYJC with a score of 55-46.
