Joshua Lim, a secondary four student from Hwa Chong Insitution, beat Hong Kong’s Ryan Choi 15-12 in the Boy’s Foil final. Joshua, who prevailed 15-10 against Syed Emir Putra from Malaysia in the semi-finals, was delighted with his win from a pool of 59 fencers.
Choy Yuyong, 15, beat Yeo Yilei of Pasir Ris Crest Secondary 15-13 in an all-Singaporean Men's Sabre final at the Cadet World Cup.
Singapore Women fencers took home team golds on the third day of the Singapore Cadet Fencing World Cup. The Singapore women’s sabre team of Charlotte Teo, Yeo Mei Li, Janice Tan and Adnan Hanan beat Hong Kong in the final with a score of 45-39.
Singaporeans Valerie Tan and Yeo Meili won gold respectively in the Epee and Sabre finals on the second day of the Cadet World Cup.
Singapore fencers swept all medals on offer in the women’s foil event on the first day of the Cadet World Cup. Liane Wong, Singapore’s 2010 Youth Olympic Games representative, breezed through the preliminary rounds but had to display her big match experience in overcoming her national teammates in the latter rounds.
The 2011 Cadet World Cup (CWC) event will see close to 200 of the top young fencers from around the region doing battle here in the Republic over four days of heated competition. The CWC is into its second year, and will be held at Republic Polytechnic from Feb 24-27.
