21 athletes named Singapore Sports Idol

As part of the post-SEA Games celebrations, 21 Team Singapore athletes were named as Singapore Sports Idol 2007. The two-month long campaign started in September 2007, and saw some 400 athletes vying for the title. Over 150,000 votes were received via SMS and the Team Singapore website.

Dragon boat community to come together in show of faith

The tragedy that struck the Singapore National Dragon Boat Team in Cambodia last November is the reason for the Corporate Dragon Boat Relay 2008: Show of Faith. This unique relay, a special event initiated by corporate affiliates, will kick off the Singapore Dragon Boat Association’s (SDBA) events calendar for the year.

Singapore makes final cut for Youth Olympic Games bid

Sentosa, Monday, January 21 1008 - Singapore made the cut to remain in the race for the right to host the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. An initial list of nine cities was whittled down to five, with Singapore coming in a close second to Moscow. This evening, 300 Singapore Sports School athletes chorused their deafening approval when the IOC Olympic Bid website revealed that Singapore had made the final two along with Moscow.

Amelia Yong makes golfing history

From a field of nine hopefuls, it came down to the final hole before Amelia emerged the clear winner at the HSBC Women’s Champions Singapore Qualifying Tournament at Tanah Merah Country Club.

Singapore schools to play host to visiting countries if Youth Olympic Games come to Singapore

Imagine sharing training tips with elite young athletes from other countries! Or even learning about what their hobbies are like or what foods they enjoy! That could soon be possible under one of MOE's key initiatives to involve more Singaporean youths in the upcoming Youth Olympics 2010 bid. This was according to Mr Goh Ek Piang, Deputy Director of CCA Branch, speaking at a seminar to publicise Singapore schools' support for the bid at Suntec City.
