Physical Education and Sports Education Branch, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 — Bukit View Secondary (BTV) defeated Yuhua Secondary (YHS) 2–1 (25–17, 22–25, 25–14) in the West Zone C Division Girls Volleyball Championship.

Bukit View currently hold a 2–1 win-loss record and they will be facing Jurong Secondary next. On the other hand, this is Yuhua’s final group game and they have been eliminated from the tournament.

Bukit View held a 16–9 lead midway through the first set, and with effective communication on the court, they managed to maintain their 7-point lead until it was 24–17. They proceeded to take the first set 25–17.

Early into the second set, both teams had their fair share of mistakes and as such, the game was tied all the way til it was 14–14. Then on, Bukit View managed to score two consecutive points to lead 16–14. For Bukit View, Niswarya (#10) consistently initiated communication on the court and also scored crucial points for the team with her strong serves.

However, towards the end of the set, Bukit View’s constant mistakes allowed Yuhua to catch up with the scoring to eventually draw even at 21–21. Yuhua then took the chance to score three points straight to make it 24–21. Bukit View tried to chase the points but it was too far gone. With that Yuhua took the second set 25–22.

Ng Yun Qi’s (BTV #14) strong drive clinched the first point for her team in the third set. The team went on to lead 3–0 before their defensive mistake handed Yuhua their first point (1–3). Niswarya (BTV #10) continued with her good game from the first set to secure consistent points for her side. For Yuhua, (#2) were making good returns to her opponents’ spikes, but it was not enough to level with Bukit View, as they eventually took the set 25–14.

Bukit View captain, Yun Qi (#14), said, “It was a good game today. I think both teams were well-matched.”

Bukit View player, Niswarya (#10), added, “It was actually kind of competitive. They actually matched our level so it was a good game. I think we could reduce our careless mistakes.”
