Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 — Phiangkhwan Pawapotako of Singapore Sports School set a new meet record in the A Division Girls 100m backstroke with a time of 1 minute 05.40 seconds to take gold at the 55th National Schools Swimming Championship. This is Phiangkhwan’s second meet record after her effort in the 200m individual medley.

She broke Meagan Lim’s year-old mark of 1:05.95.

Shan Teo and May Chua of Raffles Institution rounded out the podium. Shan swam a time of 1 minute 07.25 seconds to clinch second, while May claimed the bronze with a time of 1 minute 10.03 seconds.

Phiangkhwan said, “It is good because I did not expect to break the record for this discipline. I don’t usually swim backstroke, but it is good that I managed to clinch the record. I am quite happy since this is my final year in Sports School and I did a good job for the school, my coaches and my team mates.”
