Singapore Sports School, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 — Dayna Ang of Raffles Institution (RI) swam a time of 2 minutes 31.85 seconds to clinch gold in the A Division Girls 200 metres freestyle at the 55th National Schools Swimming Championships.

The meet record is held by Shan Teo, also of Raffles Institution. She set the mark of 2 minutes 5.72 seconds back in 2012.

Christiane Tan of RI came in second with a time of 2 minutes 34.28 seconds, while Lok Si Ying of Temasek Junior College claimed the bronze in 2:45.54.

A strong dive at the start allowed Dayna to build a comfortable lead, which she was able to maintain until the end of the race.

Dayna said, “It was really great, because I made an improvement from my heats timing. It was a great way to end my A Division. I could not have done this without my parents and my coaches because they dedicated a lot of me.”

Dayna was also part of the RI team that won the girls’ A Division water-polo title earlier this month.
