Singapore Sports School, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 — Nur Marina Chan of Anglo-Chinese Junior College rewrote the meet record in the A Division Girls 50 metres freestyle with a personal best effort of 26.11 seconds in the 55th National Schools Swimming Championship.

Quah Ting Wen, then of Raffles Institution, held the previous record of 26.38 seconds. She set the mark in 2009.

Song Ai Vee of Raffles Institution and Annis Loy of Temasek Junior College shared second place. Both swimmers finished with identical timings of 28.36 seconds.

Nur Marina said, “It was good that I did a personal best, but I wanted to go under 26 seconds. It was a good effort, but I have to train more. I want to thank my biggest supporters, which are my parents, my siblings and my coach.”

Nur Marina’s new PB made her only the fourth local female swimmer to go faster than 40-time Southeast Asian Games champion Joscelin Yeo in this event. The other three are Amanda Lim (25.38s), Ting Wen (25.43s) and Mylene Ong (25.68s). Joscelin’s PB is 26.13s.
