Choa Chu Kang Sports Stadium, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 — Singapore Sports School finished first in the C Division girls’ 4×100 metres relay final in a fast time of 49.94 seconds at the 55th National Schools Track and Field Championships to defend their title.

Cedar Girls’ Secondary came in over two seconds later to finish second in 52.13s, while Nanyang Girls’ High trailed in third with a 54.31-second effort.

Singapore Sports School’s last runner, Ismi Zakiah, pulled away from her competitors on the home straight to take the title by a yawning gap. It was the largest margin of victory in at least 34 years.

Ismi, who won the 100m and 200m gold at these championships, said, “At first I was quite nervous, as it was kind of cold due to the weather and the wind. But during the race, I felt that it was easy to move.”

SSP’s time of 49.94s is second only to the performance of 49.67s by their seniors in 2010, in the history of girls’ C Division 4x100m relay at these championships.
