Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 — Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) clinched gold in the boys’ A Division 4x100m relay at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.

The quartet of Ng Wei Ming, Benjamin Ong, Jerrel Wang and Zubin Percy Muncherji clocked a time of 43.03 seconds to take first place.

Raffles Institution took the silver with a time of 43.35 seconds, while Hwa Chong Institution were third in 44.04s.

The meet record is held by Raffles Junior College. They posted a time of 41.65 seconds in 2005 to set the meet record.

ACJC were trailing till late in the race, when third runner Jerrel Wang, who finished fourth in the 100m final earlier in the afternoon, ran a strong curve leg to nullify RI’s advantage. Zubin, ACJC’s anchor, received the baton at just about the same time as his RI counterpart Ang Ding Hui, but he propelled past the 100m bronze medallist with 50 metres to go to give ACJC the win.

Zubin said, “It was amazing to win. Our minds were drifting due to the rain delay, and we had to refocus. We were glad to have won, as we were the underdogs heading into the event.”

This is ACJC’s first triumph in this event since 2001. Their time of 43.03s is just a shade slower than their fastest electronically-timed performance of 43.02s at the 1998 championships.
