Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 — Nur Izlyn of Singapore Sports School (SSP) retained her B Division girls’ 100m title with a timing of 12.61 seconds at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.

SSP swept to a 1-2-3 finish. Kugapriya d/o Chandran bagged the silver medal with a 12.75s, while Anastasia Lim picked up her first individual medal of the championships with a third-placed time of 13.42s.

Izlyn, who slashed her personal best by 0.1 seconds, said, “I feel shocked. I didn’t expect to win. I want to thank my coach and parents for always coming down (to support me).”

Kugapriya was the favourite going into the final. She led the field with times of 12.66s and 12.64s in the heats and semi-finals, and has a personal best of 12.40s clocked at last year’s Nanjing Asian Youth Games. She also set a meet record in the 200m final on April 14th which she won.

The B Division 100m electronically-timed record of 12.39 seconds was set in 2012 by Singapore Sports School alumnus, Eugenia Tan. The hand-timed mark is held by former national sprinter Mona Kunalan, who ran 12.2s under the banner of CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent in 1987.
