Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, April 14, 2014 — Dunman Secondary School (DMN) recorded its second straight win in Group Y by beating Jurong Secondary School (JSS) 43–37 in the National B Division Girls Basketball Championship.

Nur Khardiyanty (JSS #4) led all scorers with 17 points, while Putri Nur Syazwani (DMN #15) and Nur Khaliesah (DMN #6) had six points apiece to lead Dunman to the win.

Jurong took the early lead in the first quarter, scoring four quick points. They adopted a strategy of taking open shots and allowing their center, Nur Shahidah (JSS #15), to put back any misses. Despite this, Dunman were able to adapt to the strategy quickly.

Dunman drove aggressively into the paint in the second quarter, however they wasted their opportunities by botching their lay ups.

Dunman were able to open a huge 13-point lead in the third quarter, on the back of balanced scoring from their players. Five different players got onto the score sheet in the period. Jurong committed a couple of turnovers, which Dunman were able to capitalise on.

Jurong put on a small run in the final quarter, cutting the lead to single digits. However, this did not trouble Dunman and they were able to close out with a 43–37 win. Dunman needs a win in their final game against Unity Secondary to guarantee their spot in the semi-final. The game will be played on Thursday, April 17 at 2.45pm. Jurong Secondary will take on Nanyang Girls’ High at the adjacent court at the same time.

Dunman top scorer, Nur Khaliesah (#6), said, “I think it was a very good experience for us. We need to buck up and work together as a team. We want to have a better experience for the next few games, as this is the last time the seniors are competing.”

Dunman captain, Putri (#15), added, “I think the final match against Unity will be a great match. It will be tough, but we will work hard to get the win.”
