Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, April 14, 2014 — Dunman Secondary (DMN) rolled past Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) 73–63 in the second round of the National B Division Boys Basketball Championship.

Koh Jin Quan (ACS #11) led all scorers with 30 points in a valiant effort to keep his team in the game. Tan Yi Rong (DMN #12) paced his team with 23 points to secure the win.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter. Dunman took a slight 16–14 lead at the end of the period.

Dunman started the second quarter on a 8–0 run, giving them a comfortable lead. Yi Rong (DMN #12) and Joshua Alas (DMN #7) showed some good defensive play in the period.

The third quarter saw Dunman stretch the lead to 20 points. Despite this, ACS never wavered. Jin Quan (ACS #11) led his team by example, fighting hard on each possession. He was the only player on his team to find consistent success against the Dunman defence.

Jin Quan’s (ACS #11) play lit a fire in the belly of the ACS players. They outscored Dunman in the fourth quarter by double digits, but it was not enough for them to overcome the huge deficit.

ACS will finish the season with a top-eight placing. This is an improvement from the previous year, where they finished in the top sixteen. Dunman will move on to the national semi-final, along with North Vista.

Dunman captain, Choo Tin Liang (#4), said, “Today was a pretty bad game for us. We were not focused enough and we did not have the hunger to win. We will try our best to win our next few games.”
