55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships A Division 2000m Steeplechase Girls

Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Tuesday, April 15, 2014 — Mary-Lisa Chua of Raffles Institution clinched the girls’ A Division 2000m steeplechase gold medal with a timing of 8 minutes 10.03 seconds at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.

Chloe Ng of Catholic Junior College bagged the silver medal with a timing of 8:17.27, while Foo Piao Lin of Anglo-Chinese Junior College finished third in 8:19.33.

The result is Mary-Lisa’s first A Division 2000m steeplechase gold medal at the National Championships. In last year’s edition, she managed a second-placed finish in 8:15.48 while her senior Janielle Lim took the gold medal in 8:07.40.

“I think it is not bad since this is my last A Division steeplechase race. I have been training quite consistently and we did not stop training even during the exam period. I want to thank my coach, Mr Quek, my teachers, Mr Tay, Mr Quek, and the rest of the team. They are very awesome people,” commented the final-year RI student, who also won the individual title at last month’s School’s cross country championships.

The A Division 2000m steeplechase record of 8:06.58 was set by RI alumna, Wan Zahrah Bte Ahmad Alif Lim, in 2011.
