Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 7, 2014 — Nah Yi Xin of Cedar Girls’ Secondary clocked 11 minutes 36.18 seconds to defend her girls’ 3000m title at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships. This is Yi Xin’s third straight win at this distance at the Championships. She won the C Division Girls’ 3000m title in 2012, as well as the B Division Girls’ 3000m title in 2013.

Jillian See of Chung Cheng High (Main) finished second with a personal best time of 11:42.44, and Pyone Myat Thwe of Commonwealth Secondary was third in 11:52.66.

Yi Xin broke away from the rest of the racers at the start. She was able to build up a lead of about 25 metres, which she maintained until the end to seal the win.

Yi Xin said: “It was quite tiring as I suffered from stitches in the penultimate round. My coach asked me to speed up, but the stitches hindered me. Strategy-wise, my plan was to go out and maintain my pace, however I slowed down towards the end. I would to thank my coach, parents and team mates for their support.”

Yi Xin’s time is a new personal best, and was three seconds off Qua Bi Qi’s 11:33.05 which is the fastest time by a local female this year.

She also became the fifth consecutive Cedarian to win this race at the Inter-School championships.

Jillian (Chung Cheng #283), said, “I felt I could do slightly better. But it was good to set my personal best in this race. I actually had no race plan, although my coach suggested to start slow and speed up towards the end. I want to thank my coach, friends and family for their support.”
