Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, February 7, 2014 — New Town Secondary notched their third straight win in the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship with an 82–26 win over Hong Kah Secondary. New Town controlled the game from start to finish, overwhelming Hong Kah at both ends of the court.
Dominic Tan (NTS #5) led all scorers with 21 points, while Zhu Guang Ming (HKS #10) and Alson Lim Jing Zhong (HKS #12) led their team with six points apiece.
Early on, Hong Kah managed to keep pace with New Town, as the latter showed signs of rustiness. This allowed Hong Kah to trail by a mere three points (4–7). However, after that juncture, New Town blew the game wide open, going on a 19–0 run to close out the quarter.
It was more of the same story throughout the rest of the game. New Town’s strength on both sides of the court was evident. On defence, their players closed out on Hong Kah’s shooters each time, forcing them into altered shots. While on offence, they exhibited fluid ball movement that bamboozled the Hong Kah defenders, draining open lay ups and three pointers.
In the end, New Town took the game in a complete blowout, winning 82–26. New Town now top Group C, while Hong Kah are unable to lift themselves off the bottom of the group.
New Town captain, Denilson Soh (#11) said, “I think we did better than in our previous two games. We have to improve on defence if we are to match up with stronger opponents. We are aiming to place in the top four in the zone.”
