Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 — Seng Kang Secondary hung on to their lead to defeat Yishun Secondary 31–28, denying them hopes of a final comeback.

Kristine Woon (Seng Kang #14) scored a game-high 14 points, while Oh Chin Leng (Yishun #11) had a team-high 12 points.

Seng Kang dominated in the first quarter to lead 11–4.

In the second quarter, Shadrina (Yishun #4) made aggressive drives into the key, but failed to convert as she faced taller defenders in the paint. As a result, Yishun trailed by seven points entering the third.

Seng Kang had a couple of free throws but failed to convert them. On the other hand, Yishun made improvements from the first half with better ball movement, and coupled with Yang Pei Shi (Yishun #15)’s uncontested underbasket shots, they managed to reduce the deficit.

The last quarter commenced with just five points (25–20) separating the teams. Both sides fumbled a lot, resulting in many missed passes.

Kristine (#14) was outstanding for Seng Kang. She worked hard in the paint to secure the boards, and gave good passes to her teammates during offensive plays. Kristine contributed six points in the quarter.

Rebecca Schiele (#12) of Yishun made good effort executing her post moves even though she was closely guarded by her defender.

In the final minute Yishun trimmed Seng Kang’s lead to just one point (29–28) with four consecutive points from Chin Leng (Yishun #11). Their persistence to take the lead was evident as they forced multiple Seng Kang turnovers. Unfortunately, they failed to capitalize on their chances.

Seng Kang did well to contain Yishun’s final efforts. Kristine (Seng Kang #14) crushed Yishun’s hopes of a last minute comeback, hitting a jumper from the elbow, ending the game with a slim 31–28 win.

Seng Kang captain Kristine (#14) said, “It was really close and intense. We almost gave away the lead towards the end but I think we demonstrated good fighting spirit.”
