Myanmar, Friday, December 13, 2013 – Singapore won their third straight game when they crushed Cambodia 99–43 at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games basketball tournament.

A 38–9 fourth quarter scoring spree saw Singapore register its largest win so far which improved their win-loss record to 3–2.

Larry Liew had a game-high 21 points, including three 3-pointers while teammates Wong Wei Long and Wu Qingde joined him in double-digit scoring with 14 and 11 respectively.

Singapore’s field goal shooting was 51 percent and they sank 10 of 37 3-point attempts (37 percent).

Desmond Oh’s defense on Cambodia’s top scorer, Anthony Dar, who scored 41 points against Thailand, was key and the defense made its presence felt in the second and third quarter.

“Our strategy to put Des on Dar Anthony (Cambodia #7) worked and our rebounding in the 2nd and 3rd quarter helped built the lead,” said Joe So, the Singapore assistant coach.

Complacency after two big wins over Indonesia and Malaysia saw the Singapore players lose focus though.

“The team didn’t come out focused after two big wins and it took a rocket from coach Neo Beng Siang to get them fired up at half time,” added Joe.

Captain Desmond Oh was a happy man.

“Very happy to secure the win and hope that this winning attitude can go on. I felt that everyone knew their roles and as long as we followed the game plan, we should be able to win,” said Desmond.
