PESEB, Evans Road, Monday, July 29, 2013 – Saint Andrew’s Secondary beat defending champions Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) 10-7 after trailing 3–7 at half time in the National C Division Rugby Championship.

Siew Hao Ren scored the ACS(I) try in the first-half and it was converted by Han Pin Quan but Vivian Philip’s try in the second-half which he converted himself set St. Andrew’s on their way to victory.

The win was the Saints’ fifth in a row and they have a perfect record of five wins and no defeats since the start of the season. For ACS(I), this was their first defeat after four straight wins and they are now second behind Saints on the table.

St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI) are the other remaining unbeaten team in Group A with four straight wins. SJI are third in the group while Raffles Institution, with two wins and two losses, occupy the fourth and last semi-final playoff spot in the group.

ACS(I) wasted many opportunities to take the game by the scruff of the neck, with poor ball handling and some questionable defending and tackling.

However, that shouldn’t take away the fact that Saints fought well, looked more threatening despite going behind in the first half, and they also capitalised on their few opportunities in the second half to claim victory.

ACS(I) captain Joshua Lee was correctly sin-binned in the second half for a dangerous tackle, which bordered on a tip. ACS(I) were lucky not to go further behind during his absence.

ACS(I) surged forward with many raids in the last five minutes, but simply could not breach the white and blue wall, as Saints defended valiantly and were willing to throw their bodies in the way.

Both teams should qualify comfortably for the semi-finals and the quality of these two teams will be worthy of a rematch.
