Temasek Polytechnic, Friday, July 19, 2013 — Defending champions Hong Kah Secondary School thumped St. Gabriel’s Secondary School 7–0 to set up a repeat of last year’s final against the Singapore Sports School in the National B Division Football Championship. The semi-final match between the West Zone Champions (Hong Kah) and South Zone Champions (St. Gabriel’s) effectively ended as a contest when Hong Kah raced into a 3–0 lead as early as the 22nd minute.

Goals from Captain Muhammad Muzakir B Abdul Manap (5th min), Mohammad Azreen Aziezul B Z (8th min) and Muhammad Shaharul Ramadhan B R (22nd min) ensured that Hong Kah took a commanding lead into half time. St. Gabriel’s responded strongly attempting to recover and bounce back from the deficit but Hong Kah, supported feverishly by their band of cheering and drums beating supporters, were already in control of the match.

National Under-15 midfielder Haiqal Pashia Anugrah, who was voted Man of the Match, increased the lead for Hong Kah to 4-0 in the 60th minute as the floodgates opened and Hong Kah added more goals through Azreen again (65th min), Muhammad Farihin Farkhan B N (68th min) and Hairyl Muhaimin B Abdul Rahim (79th min).

In the other semi-final match played a day earlier, the Singapore Sports School team, which consisted mostly of players from the Singapore Lion City Cup squad, brushed aside St. Patrick’s School with a score of 4–0. Hong Kah now set their sights on retaining the national title. Sports School, the national champions from 2007 to 2011, will be looking to snatch their title back this year. The final will be played on Wednesday, July 24, at the Temasek Polytechnic Sports Complex. It is scheduled to kick off at 4.45 p.m.
