Meridian Junior College, Friday, May 10, 2013 — Raffles Institution (RI) needed a last-minute goal by Chris Tran to beat Anderson Junior College (AJC) 1–0 in their Round 2 game of the National A Division Football Championship.

A draw would have left them waiting to see the result of the game between St. Andrew’s Junior College (SAJC) and Meridian Junior College (MJC). As it turned out, MJC beat SAJC 1–0 to capture top spot in the group and leave SAJC in third and out of the semi-finals. In a bitter irony for SAJC, they failed to qualify for the semi-finals despite scoring more goals than both RI and MJC in Round 2. SAJC had four goals compared to three for MJC and two for RI.

RI finished second in the group with six points with a 2-win, 0-draw, 1-loss record while MJC (2-1-0) topped the group with seven. RI’s sole second round loss came in a 0–1 defeat by MJC.

RI finished Round 1 second in their group to ACJC on goal difference with a 4-0-1 record. Their sole round one loss came in a 3–2 defeat by Millennia Institute who eventually finished third in the group. RI beat group winners ACJC 1–0 and will now face them again in the semi-finals on Friday, May 17. MJC will play Victoria Junior College in the other semi-final on the same day.

RI have scored a total of 13 goals (1.625 goals per game average) and conceded four in their campaign so far. Of the four semi-finalists, RI have scored the fewest goals. VJC are the top scorers with 29 goals (3.625), while MJC (3.000) and ACJC (2.625) have scored 21 goals each.

Of the four teams, RI, at four, have conceded the most goals. VJC and MJC have conceded one each while ACJC have let in two.
