PESEB (Formerly CCAB), Tuesday, March 12, 2013 – Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) beat Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) 35–7 to remain at the top of the table in the National B Division Rugby Championship.
Both teams had all but qualified for the semi-finals and had different intentions going into the game. ACS(I) needed the win to remain at the top of the table to avoid meeting defending champions Saint Andrew’s Secondary in the semi-finals, while for ACS(BR), it was a matter of pride to beat their fiercest rival.
In the first half of the match, it was ACS(I) who did the bulk of the attacking right from the opening whistle. In addition to a penalty, two unconverted tries by Joshua Goh (#9) and Joshua Lim (#25) made the score 13-0 to ACS(I) at half time.
In the second half, a breakdown in the left flank by ACS(I) led to a penalty try for ACS(BR). ACS(I) winger Daniel Ho (#14), was yellow-carded for the offence, and had to spend 10 minutes in the sin bin.
With ACS(BR) closing the deficit to 7–13, it seemed like there would be a remarkable comeback in the offing. However, this was not to be as ACS(I) kept their foot on the pedal and piled on the points. Further tries saw ACS(I) stretch the lead, even with a man down temporarily, to 35–7 before the final whistle was blown.
Both teams have another group match to play before the semi-finals in late March. The final is due to be played on April 11 at Home Team Academy.
