PESEB, Thursday, February 28, 2013 — Anglo Chinese School (Independent) dominated their opponents Pioneer Secondary, scoring eleven tries to win 75-0 in the National B Division Rugby Championship.

It was second victory in a row for ACS(I) while for Pioneer, it was their third loss in four matches. Pioneer’s only victory so far came in a 34-6 win over Damai Secondary.

ACS(I) dominated from the kick off, scoring four tries in the first half through Kyler Wong (#6), Daniel Lee (#5) and two by Lee Jenen (#15). Roy Woo (#10) converted all four tries perfectly for ACS(I) to lead 28-0 at half time.

After the break, ACS(I) came on even stronger, hungry to finish what they started. Daniel Lee (#5) scored the next try after which Roy Woo (#10) converted it with ease.

Darell Ou (#8) also joined the list of try scorers. However, this time the tight angle proved to be a challenge for Roy as he failed to convert, leaving ACS(I) with a 40-0.

Pioneer almost scored a try on one attempt. Winger Muhd Hairul (#9) managed to push past his opponents and cross the touchline. Unfortunately, he was unable to ground the ball in time and the ACS(I) defenders were quick to defend and break down the attack.

“That was the highlight for me. I almost scored there!” said Muhd Hairul after the match.

“We played against a strong team that we found hard to play against, especially in terms of defence,” he added.

“We will definitely improve on our overall performance. As for our chances this year, I am still unsure,” said a smiling Muhd Hairul.

The game finished with Kyler Wong, Roy Woo and Darell Ou scoring in quick succession, with Roy Woo converting all three tries confidently to give ACS(I) a 75-0 victory.

ACS(I) captain Joseph Yek (#13) said: “It was a good game, but there’s still lots of room for improvement.”

“I think if we keep working at this rate and keeping our current form up, we will stand a high chance of winning the championship,” added Joseph.

When asked on his highlight of the game, Joseph said with a smile: “Definitely the final try, as we tried our best to score as many as possible before the game ended.”
