Singapore Polytechnic, Wednesday, January 30, 2013 — The National University of Singapore (NUS) beat the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) 43-34 to defend their Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Netball Championship title.

This was only the second title for NUS in the last 12 IVP seasons. NTU have been champions nine times in the same time period.

NUS, with many experienced players, had no difficulty getting through to the final.

NUS defeated Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) by huge margins in the first round to top their group. NUS collectively outscored the four teams 240-94.

NUS went on to beat the Singapore Management University (SMU) 56-29 in the semi-finals to qualify for the final.

NTU breezed through the first round as well. NTU beat Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, SMU and newcomers, the Singapore Institute of Technology, to finish first in their group.

In the semi-finals, NTU beat SIM 65-42 to make the final.

The final between NTU and NUS saw two teams not unfamiliar with each other. Both teams had almost 70 per cent of their players coming from the same club team, Sneakers Netball Club.

However, the more experienced NUS squad eventually defeated NTU 43-34 to defend the title.

In the 3rd/4th placing match, SIM beat SMU 46-38.
