Singapore Polytechnic, Friday, November 2, 2012 — Singapore Polytechnic (SP) went down 30-37 to defending champions Temasek Polytechnic (TP) on the final day of competition but still emerged as champions of the Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Netball Championship.

Thanks to their unexpected 43-41 win over Republic Polytechnic (RP) earlier in the week, SP could afford to lose to TP and still win the title, finishing the tournament with a 4-1 win-loss record. RP beat Ngee Ann Polytechnic 40-31 in their final game to finish also with a 4-1 record and second spot.

Rima Yanti proved an outstanding goal shooter for SP with her opponents struggling to defend against her height. SP also did not have national age-group players in their squad, making their win all the more remarkable.

RP, who had four Singapore Sports School alumni in their ranks, two of whom are still national age-group players, were the favourites at the start of the tournament, but shooting proved their weakness.

For TP, who were POL-ITE champions for four consecutive years from 2008 to 2011, the win gave them a 2-3 record and they edged out Nanyang Polytechnic for fourth place based on goal difference.
