Kallang Netball Centre, Sunday, May 13, 2012 — “We are still making mistakes!” said Malkit Kaur, after her team, Moulmein CSC, beat Kampong Glam 6-3 in their opening game of the Community Games netball tournament.

“We played together only three or four times before today. It’s fun. After scoring, we got the mood!” said the bubbly lady who works at Tanglin Community Club.

Malkit then introduced everyone in her team — Shaista the goal shooter, Sabrina Wong at centre, Helen Seah at wing attack, Mini at goal defence, and Michelle Tan at goal attack.

Despite having a player short, they gamely played on. In their second match, they lost 3-7 to Kolam Ayer.

When the delicate question of her age was brought up, Malkit said without hesitation, while gesturing at her teammate Mini: “Both of us are 50.”

And in case she though I doubted her energy level, she added: “I took Brand’s Essence of Chicken today! It really works!”

“The best part of netball only is the scoring! But playing with younger girls, they don’t give chance,” said Malkit, who played netball for Monk’s Hill Secondary.
