Orchid Country Club, Sunday, April 29, 2012 — The 73 bowlers were spread out over 10 lanes. After the first of the three-game competition, the focus turned to Kelvin Lim and Erick Ching as they started to pile up the pinfalls.

At the end of the three games, it was Erick who edged Kelvin out 652 to 618 pinfalls. Erick averaged 217.3 with a best-game score of 235 while Kelvin averaged 206.0 with a best-game score of 234.

However, it was just a friendly competition for the friends who have known each other for quite a while.

“We’ve known each other for 10 to 11 years already,” said Kelvin, 50, who drives a taxi for a living. “Last time, we played for Chong Pang CSC.”

“We’ve knew each other from bowling at SAFRA Yishun,” said Erick, 35, who works in the automobile industry. “I’ve been bowling for 12 years …”

“… and I’ve been bowling for 16 to 17 years,” added Kelvin.

Apart from bowling in the Community Games, Erick also turns out to bowl for Warren Golf and Country Club.

“I used to play for Black Knights in leagues organised by the different bowling venues,” said Kelvin. “It was Erick who brought me in to play in the Community Games.”

Erick also turned out for Woodlands in the mixed team category. He scored a 589 total to lead his team of four to a fourth placing out of 14 teams in the Sembawang Cluster.
