Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Thursday, April 5, 2012 – Kugapriyad d/o Chandran clocked the third fastest time ever in the Girls’ C Division 200 metres to win the title at the 53rd National Schools’ Track and Field Championships.

Kugapriyad finished second in this event last year, behind schoolmate Nur Maisara Bte Razlee, but this time blasted off the blocks and quickly made up the stagger on the defending champion who started in lane five.

Kugapriyad won in a time of 26.27 seconds, which has only been beaten by championship record holder and schoolmate Shanti Pereira (26.09 in 2010), and Lim Joo Lee (25.9 in 1993), then of Raffles Girls’ School.

Nanyang Girls’ High School’s Lim Ying took the silver medal in a time of 26.72 sec, which ranked 15th fastest in the history of this event. Nur Maisara, who completed a 200m-400m double as a Secondary One student last year, was third in 27.10 sec.

Kugapriyad is the sixth straight winner in this event to start the race from lane four.
