B Div Vball (Girls): Dunman hold off Ngee Ann in second round match

Presbyterian High, Tuesday, March 20, 2012 — Dunman Secondary held off a late challenge by Ngee Ann Secondary to win 2-1 (25-11, 20-25, 25-23) in a Round Two, Group Y match at the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.
Dunman got off to a spectacular start as they held Ngee Ann at bay. They raced off to command a 16-4 lead which Ngee Ann could not overcome. Despite Ngee Ann taking several points in quick succession, they were unable to overcome the initial deficit, leaving Dunman to take the set 25-11.
The second set was a much different affair.
Despite Dunman taking an early lead, they saw it fade away as Ngee Ann closed in to tie the score 13-13. It was a close fight and a drop in form by Dunman saw Ngee Ann turn the tables and steal the lead.
Ngee Ann were soon leading 24-19 after a strong spike by Hui Wen (Ngee Ann #7). Despite Dunman saving the next point, Hui Wen (Ngee Ann #7) took the final point with a spike to the backline, forcing the match into a third set.
Dunman appeared to have regained their form in the third set as they raced ahead to lead 9-4. By the changeover, they were holding on to a six-point lead as they led 13-7.
Ngee Ann slowly but steadily kept up the chase and their efforts ultimately paid off. They put themselves back into the game after leveling the score 16-16.
The teams were then tied once again at the 18-18 mark but Dunman quickly regained their form to pull ahead.
Dunman reach match point after a spike by Celine (Dunman #9) but were unable to finish off as Ngee Ann saved two consecutive match points to trail 23-24.
A timeout by Dunman at this point managed to hold off Ngee Ann as Vinne (Dunman #1) sealed the last point, deflecting her spike down the Ngee Ann block.
