Kuching, Saturday, March 17, 2012 — The Singapore LionsXII beat Sarawak 1-0 in a hostile away game to notch their fourth successive victory in the Malaysian Super League (MSL).

Two first half headers by Madhu Mohana and Hariss Harun hit the crossbar before LionsXII captain Shahril Ishak scored from a controversial penalty in the 72nd minute. Sarawak’s Yosri Derma Raju handled the ball in the penalty box which television replays confirmed and Shahril stepped up to score his seventh goal of the season, his third from the penalty spot.

The win improved the LionsXII’s MSL record to 6 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses and they lie third in the table behind first-placed Kelantan (7-2-1), who beat Perak 2-0, and Terengganu (6-2-2), who saw off Sabah 6-3.

Their four-match winning streak is matched only by Perak, Terengganu and T-Team.

The match was interrupted twice in the first half. The stadium lights went out and it took about 15 minutes before they were brought back on. Then the referee had to stop the game after fireworks were thrown at LionsXII goalkeeper Hyrulnizam Jumaat.

Sarawak had one good chance to equalise at the death but Hyrulnizam saved well from their direct free kick.
