Presbyterian High, Tuesday, March 6, 2012 — Defending champions St Hilda’s Secondary swept aside Chong Boon Secondary to win 2-0 (25-10, 25-15) in their Round One, Group C match at the National B Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship.
St Hilda’s finish top of Group C and progress into the next round while Chong Boon, the South Zone champions, are eliminated from the competition after failing to win any of their group matches at the Nationals. Joining St Hilda’s in the next round is Clementi Town Secondary, who beat Sembawang Secondary 2-0 (25-19, 25-22) in another Group C match.
St Hilda’s established their dominance right at the start as they raced off to a 7-0 lead. A timeout from Chong Boon could not stop the onslaught as St Hilda’s continued raking in points.
Chong Boon had no answer to the St Hilda’s attack and quickly saw themselves trailing 5-17.
Despite being able to score a few points subsequently, they were no match for St Hilda’s as the latter finished off the set 25-10.
Chong Boon managed to keep the score close at the start of the second set. They scored several points past St Hilda’s and saw the score tied 8-8. However, St Hilda’s managed to pull ahead to lead 12-8, prompting a timeout from Chong Boon.
St Hilda’s did not look back as they continued their scoring streak to eventually take the second set 25-15.
