Singapore Basketball Centre, Monday, February 13, 2012 — Nan Chiau High tipped off Round 2 of the North Zone B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship with a closely fought 30-24 win over Seng Kang Secondary.

The opening quarter was a cautious affair, with Nan Chiau leading just 8-5 after the first 10 minutes. Although Seng Kang managed to outscore Nan Chiau 7-6 in the second quarter. Nan Chiau still held a slim two-point lead to end the quarter 14-12 ahead.

Nan Chiau still looked unfazed even though Seng Kang looked like they had what it took to create an upset. In the final quarter, Nan Chiau led 27-24 with a few minutes left on the clock as they got most of their points due to Seng Kang committing unnecessary fouls as they rebounded for the ball.

Seng Kang could not make a break past the Nan Chiau defence as Nan Chiau closed out the game by going on a fast break to end the game 29-24.

In the other group matches, North Vista Secondary and Christ Church Secondary also registered wins in respective matches.

Christ Church vs Deyi
Christ Church won the game 67-50.

Christ Church started the game with a 4-0 run and looked unstoppable as they broke the Deyi defence line easily to go for open lay-ups. Deyi were down 12-5 in the first quarter with two minutes left, but came back strongly after having a quick timeout to regroup themselves. They closed the quarter by going on a 6-0 run to come within one point of Christ Church.

Deyi then lost a grip of the game as Christ Church went on a shooting spree to lead 35-24 at the end of the first half. From then on, Deyi could not get a hang of the game anymore as Christ Church continued to extend their lead further in the second half.

Christ Church easily won the game 67-50 with their #7 contributing one-third of the team points with a game high of 28 points.

North Vista vs Woodgrove
North Vista beat Woodgrove 28-21.

North Vista opened the quarter with a strong 9-0 run within the first six minutes of the game. Woodgrove tried to regroup by calling a timeout but they only managed to draw a foul at the end of the quarter to net one of two free throws to trail 1-9.

In the second quarter, Woodgrove came back as they held North Vista at bay, not allowing them to pull away. Woodgrove fought back to end the first half trailing by just two points at 11-13.

Woodgrove started the third quarter well as they drew level at 13 a piece, giving them hope. North Vista panicked as they tried to fight back but managed to calm down and get a grip of the game by not allowing Woodgrove to run away with the win. North Vista outscored Woodgrove 6-4 in the third quarter and eventually closed the game out 28-21.
