Padang, Sunday, November 6, 2011 — St Andrew’s Secondary and Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) boosted local pride when they won two age-group titles at the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) International Rugby 7s tournament.
St Andrew’s beat ACS(I) 12-5 in the final of the Under-14 category while an older group of ACS(I) boys beat Tanglin Trust School 20-0 in the U-16 final.
In the U-19 category, ACS(I) was the only local school to make it into the semi-finals where they lost 29-0 to Tanglin Trust School. Tanglin trust went on to beat Overseas Family School 15-7 in the U-19 final.
Local schools across three age groups had grabbed seven out of 12 semi-final spots on offer at the annual SCC Rugby 7s. After the semis were done, three local teams — one from St Andrew’s and two from ACS(I) — were left standing.
While the U-14 semi-finals were all local affairs — ACS(I) beating ACS (Barker Road) 19-5 and St Andrew’s beating St Joseph’s Institution 17-7 — the U-16 semi-finals saw two local vs international match ups. ACS(I) saw off Australian International School (AIS) 19-0 while Tanglin Trust beat Raffles Institution 7-5 in the other.
In the U-19 category, there was only one local school in the semi-final lineups. ACS(I) went down 29-0 to Tanglin Trust while the other semi-final saw Overseas Family School beat United World College 12-0.
