Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, July 25, 2011 — Jurong Secondary rallied from six points down in the fourth quarter to edge out Presbyterian High School 51-47 in an exciting first round National C Division Basketball Championship match.

With the win, Jurong qualified for the second round in first position, despite only finishing third in the zonal championship.

Jurong Sec had started the game brightly, with forward #12 driving his team to a 15-9 lead with fast break points. Presbyterian High regrouped in the second quarter and managed to hold the previously rampant Jurong Sec team to a 24-18 half time lead.

The game swung the other way in the third quarter, with the Presbyterian High forwards driving in for successful lay ups. Presbyterian High’s point guard #8 also scored two crucial 3-pointers in a 16-6 run to propel his team to a 34-30 lead. Jurong Sec, on the other hand, failed to convert numerous opportunities under the basket.

The flow of the game seemed positive for Presbyterian High in the fourth quarter as they led by six points at 36-30. Presbyterian High’s centre #15 powered in for 2 points for his team’s biggest lead of the game.

Yet it was at this point that Jurong Sec rallied strongly to reduce the deficit to 35-36 with a three point play by their centre #15. He scored again in the paint to haul Jurong back into a 37-36 lead.

Jurong then held on for an eventual 4-point victory as time ran out for Presbyterian High, despite their best efforts to close the gap.
