A Division Tennis: Victoria Junior College beat Serangoon Junior College 4-1 to win opening tie

Serangoon Junior College, Friday, April 8, 2011 — Victoria Junior College (VJC) beat Serangoon Junior College (SRJC) 4-1 in their 2011 National A Division Tennis Championship preliminary round encounter.
VJC’s Shilp Samir Rawal beat SRJC’s Png Rui Jin 9-3 in the first singles while in the second singles, VJC’s Oh Jon Keat survived a scare from a determined Kenneth Lee to win 9-5.
In the first doubles match, the VJC pair of John Lee and Tan Zhan Peng overcame SRJC’s Ben Cheng and Seah Zuo Yu 9-7.
SRJC finally won a game in the second doubles, with Low Wei Cong and Lim Yong Qin putting up a good performance to defeat VJC’s Hiew Wenji and Tan Jek Kai 9-6.
VJC’s Andrew Chan was imperious in the third singles, defeating SRJC’s Zayar Lin 9-0.
SRJC’s teacher-in-charge Mr Kok Wai Tong said after the game that he was pleased with his team’s performance against a more seasoned opponent.
“They fought their hearts out and they will continue to improve,” he said.
