Tanjong Katong Girls’ School, Tuesday, March 1, 2011 — Tanjong Katong Girls’ School (TKGS) beat arch rivals Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) 3-1 to qualify for the semi-finals of the B Division Softball Championship.

In a must-win match for both teams, TKGS fought back from an early deficit to clinch a spot in the semi-finals at RGS’ expense. Nanyang Girls’ High was the other team from the group to qualify for the semi-finals.

Both TKGS and RGS entered their quarter-final tie level on points after each notched a victory and a defeat in the quarter-finals group stage.

Fresh off a narrow defeat to Nanyang Girls’ High, TKGS were determined to win this final match on their home ground.

RGS batted first and they did not take long to score their first run.

TKGS were in control after registering the first two outs of the game. However, a lapse in their focus saw RGS’ Nur Dayana given a walk. Nur seized this opportunity to steal two bases before finally scoring on a hit by teammate, Esna Ong.

It did not take long before TKGS reclaimed the lead. Shin Yi, the lead-off batter for TKGS, scored the equalizing run off a hit by team mate, Angelynn.

Angelynn subsequently also scored for TKGS to edge ahead. A mis-throw by the RGS fielders allowed Angelynn to advance bases and score.

With the lead in hand, TKGS never looked back.

TKGS pitcher, Nat Ong, held her nerves to deliver a stellar pitching performance and kept RGS scoreless in the rest of the innings.

TKGS added one more run in the second inning after another error by the RGS fielders allowed TKGS’ Klarrisa to scamper home safely for a two run cushion.

With this 3-1 victory over RGS, TKGS advance into the semi-finals, which will be played at Kallang on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011.
