Republic Polytechnic, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 – Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) got their A Division Netball Championship title defense to a winning start with a comfortable 86-13 victory over Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) in Group C.

The final outcome of the match was never in doubt as the defending champions took a 26-3 lead after one quarter, before extending their lead throughout the rest of the match. ACS(I) had no reply, as they scored just 13 goals throughout the match.

"We played alright," said ACJC captain Natalie Long. "But we can still improve on working together as a team. No doubt there's pressure on us to retain the title, but it motivates us to play better."

"I know it is a very typical thing for people to say, but honestly, every team looks good," added vice-captain Nashita Pillay. "We play our next match on Monday, but we are not really caring about the scoreline. What we want to do is to do our best and work out some of our plays."

In the other Group C match, Pioneer JC registered a 40-21 win over Yishun JC.

Last year's runners-up Raffles Institution also started their campaign with a win, beating Victoria JC 66-15 in Group B. RI gave their opponents no chance as they established an insurmountable lead very early on in the game and held on.

Despite the win, coach Chng Li Li was not pleased with her side's performance.

"Although my team won, their performance wasn't good," commented coach Chng after the game. "The key to the game was our accurate shooting and defending but we haven't got into the flow of things yet."

"We are aiming for the final this year, and we hope to be able do one better this time and be champions," added the RI coach.

In the other Group B match, Anderson JC beat Millennia Institute 47-25.

Wednesday's matches also featured those in Group A, where Temasek JC overcame St. Andrew's JC in a shock 33-31 upset. Jurong JC had an easier outing, beating Innova JC 58-28.
