Bukit Gombak Stadium, Saturday, March 14, 2009 – Lesser-known Mustapa Md Elfi of Wings Athletics Club upstaged the likes of national 100m record holder UK Shyam, Poh Seng Song and Calvin Kang to clock the fastest time of 10.86s in the 100m at the 3rd All-Comers Meet.

Running in the third heat, he led Izwan Firdaus of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and Lee Chengwei, also of Wings Athletics Club, to sub-11s timings. Izwan clocked 10.97s while Chengwei did 10.99s.

His performance came on the heels of the dead heat between 2004 Olympian Poh Seng Song (Wings Athletics Club) and 2008 Olympian Calvin Kang (unattached) in the first heat. Both of them clocked a time of 10.89s with Poh placing first after a photo-finish. Jamal Md Amiruddin was the third finisher in that heat and also got through under 11s in a time of 10.94s. National 110m hurdles record holder Abdul Hakeem Abdul Halim though did not manage to replicate those sub-11s efforts in the tough group of sprinters, finishing fourth in a time of 11.04s.

In the second heat, Mohd Refunggi (Institute of Technical Education) trumped UK Shyam by four hundredths of a second in a time of 10.97s to Shyam’s 11.01s.
