Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Games 07-08
IVP Basketball Championship

The rivalry between the ITEs, Universities and Polytechnics will spill out onto the courts once again this year with the start of IVP 07-08. If you want to see games where played at a furious, physical pace, the IVP Games is it.

I will cover the games as best as I can and I welcome anyone who would like to share a tale or two of their games. Pictures are welcomed too.

I find it odd that all the fixtures are crammed together in a space of two weeks when the academic year is much longer. Is it a logistical impossibility for the fixtures to be played out over a few months? The games would then fit into the rhythm and cadence of school life in a much more natural way. Friends, families and alumni can then set aside time once a week to go and support their team.

The games are now squeezed into a breathless two weeks like an afterthought and to top it all off, the semifinals and finals for both the women’s and men’s are played on the same day at the exact same time. It’s just a shame that I will have to pick one over the other.

I had the same challenge with the ‘A’ Division games as well. Three finals in one day for a few days in a row. Now, how do you choose?
