Red Sports: How long have you played basketball for your school?
Jabez: I started to pick up basketball at the end of Primary 3. I played for Woodlands Primary for two years and transferred to Pioneer Primary during Primary 6 and played there one year. I’ve played for Catholic High for the last two years.

Red Sports: What is your most memorable, happiest moment playing for your school?
Jabez: Hmm…memorable? This year’s achievement (winning the ‘C’ Division Championship) was great because we started out with our team lacking in confidence and discipline. We managed to improve slowly match by match and our effort paid off finally. I would say the games among the top 4 were great, especially the semifinals. It's the game against my old teammates.

Red Sports: What is your favourite shot? Favourite team tactic?
Jabez: Fast breaks rawks! 2-3 zone?

Red Sports: How did you get started with basketball?
Jabez: It all started in Primary 3, under the motivation of my friends playing at a nearby basketball court. It was one of my teachers who introduce the game of basketball to me, allowing me to attend basketball trainings. Of course, it would never be possible without the continuous support of my family and friends.

Red Sports: What is the hardest thing you had to overcome as a school player?
Jabez: I guess it would be to strike a balance between studies and sports. Undoubtedly, the sport is competitive and a lot is expected from us as school players. Many hours of training have been invested but I think it's all worth it. That being said, a lot of self-discipline is needed to ensure studies are kept up with. We have to endure the tough trainings which are almost everyday.

Red Sports: Any advice to the juniors who are trying to break into the school team next year?
Jabez: I guess as long as there is a will, there is a way. There is no secret or shortcuts. Train hard, play hard. Work hard and stay humble. I still believe if they are passionate about the game they can make it.

Red Sports: Are you hoping to play on in the ‘B’ Division?
Jabez: Yes. I would gladly play in the ‘B’ Division. (editor’s note: Jabez recently got promoted to the ‘B’ Division squad to play in the ISIBL)
