Deyi Secondary caused a major upset when they stunned Dunman Secondary 46-41 in a first round Group A match at the Singapore Basketball Centre.

Dunman Sec had come into the nationals with good credentials, having lost narrowly to Anglican High in the East Zone Championship Final played last Thursday. However, Deyi who finished third in the North Zone, outplayed their more illustrious opponent in the first quarter 16-9.

They further proved it was no fluke when they extended their lead to 26-14 at the half. Point guard #8 of Deyi was particularly impressive with his ball handling skills.

Dunman tried to mount a comeback in the second half and managed to close the gap to 21-30 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth and final quarter, Dunman desperately tried to come back into the game, led also by their impressive point guard #13. The match went down the wire, but unfortunately time ran out for them. Deyi sealed the game with a free throw near the end of the game to open up a fivce-point lead with six seconds to go. The gap proved too big as Deyi held on for a famous 46-41 triumph.
